Natural ultraviolet radiation and preliminary skin aging

This article discusses harmful impact of ultraviolet (UV) radiation on human skin. UV radiation is an invisible electromagnetic radiation in the 200 – 400 nm wave range which, in addition to infrared radiation and daylight, makes up the sunlight that reaches the Earth. From among all types of radiation it is ultraviolet radiation that has the greatest impact on the human body. Exposure to to UV radiation may be both positive and seriously harmful.

Lighting system design for a computer workstation for eyesight impaired people

This paper presents examples of local luminaires designed for lighting workplaces for people with moderately impaired eyesight. An analysis of the functional properties of luminaires results in a proposal for a lighting system. It consists of a general luminaire as well as a local luminaire. Both luminaires are equipped with a device for adjusting illuminance and colour temperature.

Occupational safety in road traffic - an European perspective

This paper presents current problems relating to safe work in the road transport sector in Europe and the trends in European policy in this area. It also presents examples of good practices, which have been successful both at the level of the government and of enterprises. Those practices have been effective in reducing the risk of accidents at work in road transport. This paper is based on materials presented during national seminars held as a part of PRAISE project.

EU strategy for OSH - evaluation of Scoreboard results

Scoreboard is a voluntary policy instrument used to evaluate implementation of a strategy. It makes it possible to analyse trends and the degree to which common goals are achieved. In 2009 Scoreboard was used to evaluate the implementation of the Community Strategy on safety and health at work 2007-2012. This article discusses topics in Scoreboard 2009 as well as basic results of a Scoreboard survey conducted in 27 EU countries. The results achieved in Poland in comparison with other Member States are stressed.

Occupational dermatitis occurances in European Union

Methods of data collection related to worldwide hand dermatosis have been presented in the article. In the United Kingdom the following systems are used: EPIDERM, OPRA, THOR, in Nordic countries such data being NOSQ-2002/SHORT and NOSQ-2002/LONG, while in all European states EODS system is present.

The influence of catalyst coating on carbon materials - safe use of gas filters for organic vapours

The article presents results of the studies on the color reaction of a modified carbon sorbent and dynamic adsorption as a result of impregnation the R1Ex carbon sorbent with metal oxides: iodine pentoxide and selenium dioxide. Studies were conducted in order to determine the reaction of modified surfaces to the presence of vapours of selected organic substances: cyclohexane, benzene and toluene. Adsorption of those vapors was also measured in dynamic conditions. It was shown that the duration of protection provided by an absorbent decreased after the modification. The dependence showing decreased ability of modified absorbents to vapors of organic substances adsorption.
